KATE PARSONS (Founder) is a video artist, VR artist, and educator living in Los Angeles. She obtained her M.F.A. in Media Arts from UCLA in 2015, and completed her M.A. in Digital Art and Video in 2013. She is the Director of Femmebit, and Co-Founder of FLOAT, a virtual reality studio. Much of her work centers on the use of the moving image to convey themes of memory and mortality, and is firmly grounded in the history of abstract film and expanded cinema. She is currently faculty at Art Center College of Design, Pepperdine, and Pasadena City College.
SHARSTEN PLENGE (Co-Founder) is an independent curator inspired by a world saturated in digital excess, instant access, and convenience. A Femmebit co-founder, she collaborates on varied projects under the guise of WOAH (We Open Art Houses), perpetually seeking utopian residues in a pervasive atmosphere of screens, sensory overload, and urban greyfields. Her projects are often site-specific and ephemeral, spanning Berlin, Houston, New York, and Los Angeles, where she currently resides and founded WOAH in 2012. A creative agency and idea hub housing spaces with experiential projects, WOAH works in tandem with artists, multimedia brands, and property owners to orient the intersection of art and technology in unexpected places.
DAHN GIM was born in South Korea, raised in Canada and currently lives in Los Angeles (USA). As an artist and curator, her work stems from personal experiences reflecting the process of adaptation to constant shifts and changes of surroundings as she struggles to gain a sense of belonging. She has participated several curatorial and archival projects at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery (Toronto). Gim has curated group shows including Blind Spot at Design Matters (LA) and Aliens with Extraordinary Abilities as a recipient of Curator’s Lab Award 2017 awarded by Fellows of Contemporary Art (LA). She has exhibited her personal works at venues such as Steve Turner Gallery, LA; Currents New Media 2017, Santa Fe; The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, LA; Nuit Blanche: Art Souterrain 2017, Montreal; Dongdaemoon Design Plaza (DDP), Seoul.
JANNA AVNER is a professional painter who curates shows, exhibits paintings and writes as much as time permits. Her research centers on the relationship between empathy and art, as well as technology’s effects on the physical body that lead to self-exploration and self-understanding. Since graduating from Yale in 2012, Janna continues to inspire her friends and community through art that speaks to the human condition in today’s polarizing political climate and to facilitate means of psychological transcendence. Janna has been quoted in the Los Angeles Times and the Paris Review. Her writings on artificial intelligence were selected for “What Future: The Year’s Best Ideas to Reclaim, Reanimate, and Reinvent Our Future,” a 2017 best-of-anthology by Unnamed Press.
EVA AGUILA is Founder and Artistic Director of Coaxial Arts Foundation, an artist run non-profit space dedicated to experimental sound, video and performance art located in DTLA. Coaxial provides residencies, studio space, technical support and public exhibition space for live events to showcase underground artists whose works are often overlooked. Aguila is also an active sound and video artist. In 2005 she started her solo noise project as Kevin Shields. She has toured extensively throughout Europe, the US, and Asia, and Mexico. In 2010 she started the experimental public access television show Experimental Half-Hour (EHH) with her husband Brock Fansler. EHH served as a collaborative platform engaging worldwide musicians and performance artists via broadcast.
RICHELLE GRIBBLE is a multidisciplinary artist exploring planetary connectivity. Her work examines networks and systems-based investigations to reflect the ways human impact, technology, and environment interact and evolve. She is a represented artist with JONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY exhibiting worldwide. She has had solo shows in Los Angeles, New York, Japan, and international orbit around Earth etched on satellites and aboard rockets. She has exhibited at renowned art fairs including Art Market San Francisco, Texas Contemporary, and Miami Project and had her artwork illuminated on a LED screen in Times Square NYC. Work presented in a TEDxTrousdale talk “What is our Role within a Networked Society?” and published in The Creator’s Project, The Atlantic, Artillery Magazine, and VICE.
